Flexible Adaptive Tesselation of Subdivision Surfaces
نویسنده
چکیده
Subdivision surfaces are a popular representation for the freeform shape in geometric modeling. While the subdivision process rapidly converges to a smooth shape, computing and rendering all the vertices is too expensive in the sense of the memory consumption and run time, and also superfluous. Our work was inspired by a demand for a rendering of dynamic scenes and an interactive rendering of the animated character model with reduced memory consumption and no dynamic allocations. The subdivision surface is rendered with no modifications of the control mesh, while allowing flexible tesselation on all subdivision levels as well as feature support (sharp edges and boundaries and vertex editing) for each level. Subdivision Surface Tesselation on the Fly using a versatile Mesh Data Structure
Subdivision surfaces have become a standard technique for freeform shape modeling. They are intuitive to use and permit designers to flexibly add detail. But with larger control meshes, efficient adaptive rendering techniques are indispensable for interactive visualization and shape modeling. In this paper, we present a realization of tesselation-on-the-fly for Loop subdivision surfaces as part...

متن کاملInteractive Rendering of Catmull/Clark Surfaces with Crease Edges TUBSCG-2001-01
A scheme for delayed tesselation of Catmull/Clark surfaces is described, where only changes of the control mesh and changes in visibility create workload. Tesselation is performed on demand and is typically spread over a number of frames, so that the number of perceivable frame rate drops is minimized. No special preprocessing stage is necessary, and applications have the greatest freedom for c...
متن کاملIterative Process to Improve Simple Adaptive Subdivision Surfaces Method with Butterfly Scheme
Subdivision surfaces were applied to the entire meshes in order to produce smooth surfaces refinement from coarse mesh. Several schemes had been introduced in this area to provide a set of rules to converge smooth surfaces. However, to compute and render all the vertices are really inconvenient in terms of memory consumption and runtime during the subdivision process. It will lead to a heavy co...
